Our game concept is on the road, it’s come together and the team’s excited to be working on it. Curious? Read on. Diagrams pending
Game Name: [TBA]
Genre: Casual Platformer
Concept:
The game world is full of light and shadow, the player has the ability to walk across pathways created by cast shadows. Each level will involve the player manipulating light and shadow to get to the exit.
Aesthetic:
16-bit appearance (See Canabalt)
Shadow areas will have a monochrome pallette, the light colour scheme has yet to be decided.
Game play:
The game is played by having the player work out a solution to get to the exit. To solve the level, the player has to navigate between the light and shadows. The exit and any keys can be found in the light however the player must walk along the shadows to get to these areas. By manipulating or placing objects into the world, the player can also create pathways to reach existing paths or access unexplored areas.
For example: Stacking some boxes and then using the shadow cast to form a bridge
Although there are lights in the world, the player will be given a limited number of portable lamps that they can place around the level. Lamps can be picked up and reused, puzzles will be more complex when different types of lights are introduced.
Eg. Flares that flash on and off, you will need to time your movement.
Walking amongst the shadows is not without its perils. Under light, a small insect will look insignificant but the shadow it casts, is that of a monster. Be careful when passing it by as it can force you out of the shadows.
The player can use objects while in the light but in the shadow world they must test their solution. The player can ‘swap’ between light and shadow at any time. There is no penalties for having to restart.
